I paint with Golden Heavy Body acrylics, and Professional mediums from Golden and Liquitex. I like acrylics because they dry quickly and I can add more layers almost immediately. They are also easy to handle, without having to deal with messy wet oil paints and toxic fumes.

For a support, I am now using Ampersand Hardbord (R) 1/8” tempered panels. I seal each panel on both sides with clear acrylic medium, then 2 layers of Liquitex Professional Acrylic Gesso on the working side. After finishing a painting and letting it cure, I seal it with 2 coats of Liquitex Professional Satin Varnish. The varnish brings out the colors and gives the painting an even sheen without being too reflective.

With the materials and process I’m using, these paintings are impervious to moisture, and with lightfast pigments, they should last for several lifetimes without noticeable degradation.
